The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
