Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
